Synchronizing title blocks and file properties

AutoCAD title block and file property data can be synchronized between the drawing and its property pages in the vault. This is useful for several purposes:

• Filling in some or all of a title block when new drawings are created from a Meridian template
• Adding data to the Meridian properties when text is typed in empty title block attributes
• Keeping the title block and its Meridian properties synchronized when changes to either are made

Synchronization occurs automatically when a drawing is opened in AutoCAD. This synchronization is from Meridian to the drawing. This ensures that any changes made to Meridian properties are reflected in the drawing attributes and file properties. Synchronization also occurs automatically when a drawing is saved in AutoCAD. This synchronization is from the drawing to Meridian. This ensures that any changes made to the drawing attributes and file properties are reflected in the Meridian properties.

In addition, synchronization can occur when significant events happen in the life cycle of a drawing:

Meridian properties can be updated from drawing attributes and file properties when:

• Drawings are imported into a vault
• Drawings are uploaded with Web Access

Title block attributes and file properties can be updated when drawings are:

• Created new from a template or by using the Meridian Copy, Derive, or Replace commands
• Routed to a different state in a document workflow
• Assigned to a work area that is routed to a different workflow state
• Released from a work area
• Checked out with Web Access

The events upon which synchronization occurs automatically are configured by a system administrator.

Synchronization can also occur as necessary, for example, when the drawing’s title has been changed, by executing Meridian commands.

To manually update a drawing’s Meridian property pages from its title block:

• On the BlueCielo menu or in the BlueCielo page of the ribbon in AutoCAD, select Update Vault. You may also type AMMUPDATE at the AutoCAD command line.

Or

• On the Document menu in Meridian, select Synchronize Properties From File.

To manually update a drawing’s title block from its Meridian property pages, such as when the drawing’s revision number has changed:

• On the BlueCielo menu or in the BlueCielo page of the ribbon in AutoCAD, select Update Drawing. You may also type UPDATETITLE at the AutoCAD command line.

Or

• On the Document menu in Meridian, select Synchronize Properties to File.

Note    A system administrator may configure some Meridian properties as read-only or write-only so that data exchange only occurs in one direction. For example, the revision number in a title block may only be able to be updated from Meridian, but not to Meridian.

Note    With some versions of AutoCAD, synchronizing properties or references with some AutoCAD files (sheet set files, for example) from within PowerUser while the file is open in AutoCAD can produce an error. First close the file in AutoCAD or synchronize the file from within AutoCAD instead.
